Power outage in some parts of the city during afternoon

Many parts of the city faced outage problem in the afternoon due to transformer breakdown in New Bern's substation. Power failure affected certain parts of the city like Neuse Boulevard, Craven Regional Medical center and New Bern. Power outage problem occurred for 20 minutes only because they had a back up transformer due to which they were able to bring back power. Many patients did not face problem because there is a generator which works immediately in critical care units and within few seconds in the rest of the hospital. Jon Rynne, the city's director of electric utilities said, "transformer failure is one of the most complicated electrical problems that the city has to analyze, and testing to figure it out sometimes takes at least six hours." is power breakdown affected nearly 5,000 customers.
