Current transformer home >> Transformer news >> Power transformers: Surge protection devices can safeguard pool equipment
Tuesday, October 21, 2008
Pool owners don't think about protecting their pool's electrical equipment from storms. Certain disruptions may lead to fluctuations which may damage or destroy sensitive electrical components due to extra voltage. Voltage surges are sometimes referred to as spikes. The spike can harm both high and low voltage pool equipment. High voltage equipment includes pool-pump motor, spa air blower, heat pumps, pool, spa lights and fiber optic illuminators. Low voltage power runs automation control panels, displays and actuator valves. The cost of replacing the equipment may be costly. Homemakers can purchase surge-protection devices to guard against spikes. Surge protection devices should be installed by a licensed, trained and insured electrical contractor. Warning: This job is not do-it-yourself. Surge protection devices can reduce the spikes on your pool equipment, but this equipment cannot safeguard direct lightning hits that may destroy the equipment.
