Siemens new substation has more than one power transformer

Siemens energy and prysmian cables & systems, have bagged an order of EUR 87 million by Thanet offshore wind ltd. The two partners have to connect the Thanet offshore wind farm to British power grid. Siemens energy and prysmian cables will generate power for nearly 167,000 homes with a capacity of 300 megawatts. Siemens will construct an offshore substation platform which will have more than one power transformer. Prysmian will supply two three phase 132 kV high voltage sub sea cables to transport the electrical power to the grid connection point. Substations will also include high voltage and medium switchgear with the necessary protection and control technology. Substation will boost the voltage from 33 kV to 132 kV for transmission to shore. Siemens is equipping the substation, which will act as the grid connection point on the coast, with a system for reactive-power compensation based on static var compensator technology. In 2007, revenue from siemens environmental portfolio was nearly EUR 17 billion. Its revenue target for 2011 is EUR 25 billion.
